What makes this even more intriguing is that Carta-Samuels is coming in as a graduate, meaning that he is eligible to play immediately. According to CBSSports.com, he will enroll in the spring, just in time for spring practice.
Another interesting fact is that he was given full release to transfer anywhere he wanted by UW head coach Chris Petersen, something not often seen, especially within conferences.

Carta-Samuels has been the backup to Huskies superstar quarterback Jake Browning the last two seasons. With Browning returning, any chance for playing time for Carta-Samuels would have to come via transfer. Last season, Carta-Samuels, played in four games and was 8/10 for 82 yards with 0 TDs and 0 INTs.
The transfer comes at a very crucial time for the Bruins. UCLA’s gunslinger for the last three years, Josh Rosen, just declared for the NFL Draft. In addition to that, the Bruins are moving back to an uptempo style of offense with Kelly taking the reins.
With Carta-Samuels’ transfer, UCLA now has a lot of options at QB. Current Bruins Devon Modster and Matt Lynch seem like ideal candidates to start as they are both dual-threat quarterbacks who showed a lot of progress backing up Rosen this past season. UCLA also has Dorian Thompson-Robinson committed to UCLA. DTR, as he is known, is one the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation and a seemingly perfect fit for Kelly’s system.

It may be a full house, but it is better than having the cupboard bare. With this transfer, expect spring ball to have just as much excitement surrounding it as the hiring of Kelly. Go Bruins!
