The UCLA Football team got a huge Easter egg on Sunday as 4-star safety Cam’ron Jones has committed to the Bruins’ 2018 class.

Easter Sunday was especially happy for UCLA Football, as it picked up the commitment of consensus 4-star safety Cam’ron Jones (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield). The Bruins beat out Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and many others for the pledge of the coveted defensive back.

Jones committed to Texas Tech in September of his junior year, but decommitted a couple months later as his recruiting profile began to take off following a superb junior season at his previous high school Euless Trinity.

UCLA was consistently on Jones since offering him in October and that persistence looked like it would pay off when Jones named the Bruins his leader in early March and said he would commit on Easter Sunday.

And so it came to pass that UCLA stayed ahead of the pack and landed the pledge of the talented youngster.

On the field, the name of the Jones’s game is read-and-react. Jones is an ideal cover-two safety, usually playing a deep centerfield role and surveying the field from behind the defense before reading and closing with vigor when the ball or a ball carrier head his way.

He’s also shown good man-on coverage skills when necessary, which is often in a Texas high school system known for wide-open offenses that will have given Jones ideal preparation for much of what he will face in the Pac-12.

After UCLA was unable to land a true safety in the 2017 recruiting class, having Jones and 3-Star Jhevon Hill (San Bernardino, CA/Cajon) already committed in April is a huge step forward towards filling a position of need.

And with the Bruins heavily in the mix for quite a few other blue-chip safeties like Bryan Addison, Stephen Blaylock, Ely Doyle, Julius Irvin, and Jevon Holland, it looks very likely that UCLA defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin will have fully restocked the safety depth chart for the future by the time National Signing Day rolls around next February.
