This weekend, both the men’s and women’s UCLA basketball teams take on USC. Not only will beating the Trojans give each team a leg up in Pac-12 play, but it will also give them a boost in the Crosstown Rivalry.

Its okay, UCLA basketball fans, you can come out of hiding, especially this week. Why is that? Because it is once again “Beat SC” Week!

Both the men’s and women’s teams are taking on their crosstown rival this weekend and wins will help both of their chances in the Pac-12, but more importantly, it will also affect the overall UCLA-USC rivalry.

More from Go Joe Bruin

The UCLA men’s basketball team will hit a smaller milestone, but still important if they get the win. The Bruins will get their 143rd victory against the Trojans pending a win at the Galen Center. Currently, UCLA leads that series, 142-108.

As for the UCLA women’s basketball team, if they get the win, they will continue to close the gap with USC. If the Bruins get this “W”, their all-time record against the Trojans will be 44-48, needing only four more to tie the series.

Another good thing about the women getting a win this week at Pauley Pavilion is that they will have swept USC in the season series and keeping the Trojans at the bottom of the Pac-12 standings. And did I mention that the women have beaten USC in 8 of the last nines games? Well, now you know.

But wait! There’s more!

If both the men and the women claim victories this weekend, then those two wins will give UCLA their 1,000th win in all sports against USC. Sure, the crosstown rival has 26 more wins, but that is not the point. This is big for UCLA and will be quite the milestone weekend for the Bruins. Besides, with all that is going on at USC, the Bruins will surpass the Trojans in no time. Especially in football (#ShotsFired).
