UCLA Football Recruiting: Mater Dei’s CB William Nimmo, Jr. picks UCLA
The UCLA football got their ninth commitment for the 2019 recruiting cycle on Thursday evening as William Nimmo, Jr. (Mater Dei/Santa Ana, CA) committed to the Bruins.
It may be slow going for UCLA football‘s recruiting process, but it is going and on Thursday the Bruins got another player to commit as 3-star safety William Nimmo, Jr. made his decision to play college football in Westwood.

The 6’1, 190 lbs. Nimmo is the highest rated player to commit to UCLA, according to 247Sports.com. He is the second defensive back Kelly has been able to lock down after the commitment of Sharmar Martin and the third defensive player along with LB John Ward, the “Palmdale Pain Train”.

What stands out about Nimmo is his speed and aggressiveness, something defensive coordinator Jerry Azzinaro and defensive backs coach Paul Rhoads are looking for. If this first season of the Kelly/Azzinaro era is any indication of how they want their defense to operate, then Nimmo is perfect for their style.
Nimmo has no problem playing on the line or in space. His ability to pursue ball carriers and potential receptions is uncanny, so imagine what he will be like in a few years as a seasoned vet with UCLA.
He can quickly get out into the open or into the backfield, making him a threat along all 100-yards of the field. Nimmo makes it hard for potential receivers to make receptions as he plays tight in coverage and will either break up the pass or keep it for himself.
And if a ball carrier is anywhere near Nimmo’s side of the field, there is little hope for them to break away because this DB will track them down and put them on the ground.
UCLA still has a long way to go in terms of the number of players they need for the 2019 class, but as far as recruiting his type of player, Kelly is being very selective and getting what he wants. Hopefully, we see more fo that by signing day.

For now, we say, Welcome to Westwood, William! It looks like Nimmo was found.
