UCLA Softball: Bruins are a 3-seed and will host NCAA Regional

After a top-ranked season, the UCLA Softball team heads into the post-season with a #3 overall ranking and will host the NCAA Regionals.

There was no doubt the UCLA Softball team was heading to the post-season, the question was “what will their path look like?”

The first part of that is clear as it was announced that the Bruins are the #3 ranked team in the NCAA Softball Bracket and will host Sacramento State, Texas State and Cal State Fullerton. The Regional will be held at Easton Stadium on the campus of UCLA starting this Friday.

The Bruins will take on Sacramento State at 8 p.m. which will be proceeded by Fullerton and Texas State at 5:30 p.m. All games will be televised on the ESPN Network. The full weekend schedule is as follows:

Friday, May 18

Sunday, May 20

  • Game 7: Game 6 Winner v. Game 6 Loser (if necessary), 6:30 p.m.

Despite ending the season after several week at #1, the Bruins get the overall #3 seed behind #1 Oregon (47-7) and #2 Florida (50-8). Oregon seemingly gets the edge as they won the Pac-12 Conference and took the season series from the Bruins, 2-1.

All-Pac-12 Conference Awards

Aside from a fantastic regular season finish, the Bruins also had a few players recognized for their efforts on the field:

  • Pac-12 Player of the Year: Rachel Garcia
  • Pac-12 Freshman of the Year: Aaliyah Jordan
  • All-Pac-12 First Team: Rachel Garcia. Aaliyah Jordan, Kelley Perez, Briana Perez
  • All-Pac-12 Second Team: Bubba Nickles
  • All-Pac-12 Third team: Madeline Jelenicki
  • All-Freshmen Team: Aaliyah Jordan, Briana Perez, Holly Azevedo, Kinsley Washington
  • All-Defensive Team: Kylee Perez, Briana Perez
