The UCLA basketball landed their second commitment of the day as 3-star small forward Jake Kyman has committed to the Bruins, giving them the #1 overall 2019 recruiting class.

Talk about “out of the blue (and gold)”! The UCLA basketball team did not just land one small forward on Tuesday, but two as 3-star Jake Kyman (Santa Margarita Catholic/Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) is another SF that is heading to Westwood.

Before today, UCLA had only one commitment, 4-star combo guard Grant Sherfield who gave his pledge a day before Halloween in 2017. Earlier today, the Bruins got their second 2019 commit with 4-star small forward Jaime Jaquez joining the Blue and Gold. A few hours later, Kyman also decided on Westwood as his college of choice.

Not only did Kyman’s commitment fill a few needs for UCLA, but it also boosted them up to #1 in the 247Sports.com recruiting class rankings. The Bruins were #2 after the Jaquez commitment, but Kyman lifted them to numero uno (hopefully he can do that on the court as well).

So who this newest Bruin commit and what can he bring to the table?

Though he is listed as a small forward, at 6’6, 180 lbs., he could be utilized as a guard. There is no doubt that he will play on the wing, especially with his shooting skills, which makes him a candidate for the 2 spot/shooting guard position, but he can do some damage on the interior as well.

One of the first things you notice about Kyman is how he can catch and shoot. He has a quick realize which is something that head coach Steve Alford would love to have with his heavy-shooting, uptempo offense.

On top of that, Kyman has the ability to slash into the paint. The added bonus here is his ball control. If he does not have the shot heading to the rim, he looks to kick out the ball to an open man. Though he might not be banging for boards (unless he tacks on some mass), expect him to be helping out on the perimeter and with the mid-range game.

So far, so good for the Bruins on the recruiting front. It was put into question after former top assistant David Grace was let go, but as it seems, the Bruins are keeping things tip-top. Go Bruins!
