UCLA Football’s linebacker Kenny Young in the third Bruin taken in the 2018 NFL Draft as the Baltimore Ravens pick him in the 4th round.

Despite not having a player selected in the second day of the 2018 NFL Draft (rounds 2-3) after having QB Josh Rosen and LT Kolton Miller picked in the first roudn, the UCLA football team saw one taken on Day 3 as linebacker Kenny Young is the 122nd overall pick.

Though Bruin fans had to wait until the 4th round of the draft, it was a big one as Young was one of the few shining spots on a defense that needed some work last year.

Young not only embodies the fight and spirit of UCLA football, but that of the University as he was one of the last players to wear #42. Why is that number so special? Because it is the number of one the greatest Bruins in history, Jackie Robinson, whose number was retired throughout the UCLA athletic department.

With Young going down as the last UCLA football player to wear the #42, he will also go down as of the fiercest defenders the Bruins have had in the last several seasons.

Playing in the middle of the linebacking group, Young was able to cover most of the field and was an absolute stud. As the most reliable defender with the Bruins, he was able to record a team-high 110 tackles (77 solo, 33 assisted), 8.5 tackles for a loss, with one sack and three pass break ups.

His ability to spot and track down ball carriers was aided by his speed and fundamental tackling ability. He also has the innate ability to stay close with his assignment in coverage and either disrupt the pass or limit addition yards after catch.

Young was also one of the leaders on the team, but is also willing to learn, which is something that will help him at the next level. With his raw talents, he should be able to raise his game with the Raven’s coaching staff. If you think he is good now, just give him a few years in the league. Congratulations, Kenny! You got a good one Baltimore!
