DTR, as he is commonly known, is the jewel of this 2018 recruiting class. Though he had previously committed to former Bruin head coach, Jim Mora, he stayed true to his word and will play college ball in blue and gold.

Thompson-Robinson is the prototypical Kelly quarterback. As one of the top dual-threat QBs in the nation, he we will carve up UCLA’s opponents on a weekly basis.

He has a cannon for an arm and can make some ridiculously accurate passes which can squeeze through small openings or go over the head’s of the defense. He also has his head on a swivel and is aware of what is going on at all times on every inch of the field.

And what about his legs? Perfect for a run-based offense that Kelly is installing. Not only does DTR have speed, but also has excellent body control, allowing him to throw on the run or across his chest. He is also built for when a play breaks down because he can adjust to new routes of his receivers and find them in open space.

UCLA has also hauled in a lot of running backs and receivers, 10 total among them. It is clear that Kelly wants to be successful as soon as possible, but this recruiting cycle also shows that he is willing to be patient and build for the future. That is something UCLA fans have been desiring for quite some time. DTR and Kelly could make that happen.
