The UCLA football team is now officially without former offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch who is taking a Senior Offensive Assistant position with the Los Angeles Rams.

The UCLA football team was in the hunt for an offensive coordinator after Chip Kelly took over, and it seemed as if former Bruin OC Jedd Fisch was a candidate early on, but as it is, UCLA will do without his services. But don’t cry for Fisch as he landed a new gig right across town.

This morning, it was reported that Fisch will be taking a Senior Executive Assistant role with the up-and-coming Los Angeles Rams.

More from Go Joe Bruin

The move could not be better for Fisch. Not only does he get to keep his family in Los Angeles, but he heads to an organization that made a complete 180-degree turn last season under the leadership of new head coach Sean McVay.

Before the McVay took over, the Rams went 4-12 under their previous leadership. This past season, they had an offensive explosion that helped them go 11-5 and make the NFC Wildcard Playoff Game.

Unfortunately, they lost to the Atlanta Falcons, 26-13. Still, it was an amazing turn around for L.A. and should be even better with Fisch on staff.

Fisch had been the interim head coach for UCLA’s last two games of the 2017 season after Jim Mora was fired before the Bruins’ final regular season game. Fisch had led UCLA to a 30-27 win over Cal, which made them bowl eligible and got them an invite to the Cactus Bowl. Unfortunately, Fisch’s Bruins ran out of gas in the second half of that game and UCLA lost a forgettable Cactus Bowl, 35-17.

Despite the final loss, it cannot be understated how vital Fisch was to UCLA’s offensive turnaround. He was able to transform a team that was at the bottom of several conference stats in 2016, to a team that was 4th in the nation in total passing yards (344.5 ypg) in 2017. Surely, he will be missed.

As for UCLA, they recently completed their coaching staff, replacing Fisch as QB coach with Dana Bible. Though Chip Kelly has not hired or officially has an OC on his staff, it is given that all the offensive duties will be on the new Bruin boss.
