It has been reported that UCLA football’s Josh Rosen will miss the Cactus Bowl due to a concussion and as it looks like there is a possibility he does not declare for the NFL Draft if the Cleveland Browns have the top pick.

We have seen Josh Rosen play for the last time in a UCLA football uniform… this year. That does not mean it is the last time ever.

Yesterday, Fox Sports reporter Bruce Feldman reported that Rosen will sit out the Cactus Bowl “under doctors orders after suffering a concussion late this season”. Rosen had sustained a concussion in the first half of the Bruins’ final game of the season against Cal.

UCLA’s backup QB Devon Modster finished the game, secured the win and the Bruins’ bowl eligibility with that win. Modster and Matt Lynch will be the top candidates to start the Cactus Bowl against Kansas State on Tuesday night.

UCLA finished the season 6-6 as they struggled through most of the season. The underwhelming result forced UCLA to fire former head coach Jim Mora and hire offensive mastermind Chip Kelly. That also brings another twist to this tale.

Rosen has not yet decided if he is going to declare. He has one year of eligibility left and has been intrigued by the Kelly hire. Though it seems that is not the determining factor for Rosen to stay.

Today it was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that “Rosen would prefer to play for the [New York] Giants over the [Cleveland] Browns and would be hesitant to declare for next year’s NFL Draft if he knew that Cleveland was going to take him with the No. 1 overall pick.” The reason for this is simply because Rosen wants to play for a “more stable franchise”.

Cleveland is 0-12 and would secure the #1 overall pick if they lose today or if the Giants get a win.

So if that happens, there is a chance that Rosen could return to UCLA, though we should expect Rosen to thoroughly think things through following the Cactus Bowl. Still, it would be something to see Rosen play in Kelly’s system.
