UCLA Football Head Coach Jim Mora gave an update on several players that were injured during the game against Oregon and talked about possible returns.

The UCLA Football team got a much needed win this past weekend over Oregon, but in that contest they also lost a way too many players to injury.

Head Coach Jim Mora gave an update on these injuries and stated that most of them are minor, but there was one that could keep a player out the entire season. With the Bruins so many players, how does that pan out for they with five games remaining in the regular season?

UCLA Football Injury Update post-Oregon

LB Breland Brandt – He remains under concussion protocol, no timetable for a return (injured before the Oregon game).

More from Go Joe Bruin

DL Matt Dickerson – Will require surgery for an injury to his collarbone. There is a chance he could return by season’s end.

TE Austin Roberts – Injurd his foot/ankle against Oregon. There is a possibility he could play against Washington.

DL Jacob Tuioti-Mariner – For precautionary measures, JTM had to be taken to the hospital during the Oregon game to check for potential internal injuries. Mora has said that he looked ok in practice and felt good.

DL Rick Wade – After spraining his knee, there is a possibility he could return this Saturday as the Bruins head to Seattle for their Pac-12 showdown against Washington.

LB Josh Woods – Suffered an injury to his shoulder, could return against Washington.

If you noticed, only one player on this list is on the offense (though this list does not take into consideration every player that has been injured or is out for the season). The Bruins lost the majority of injured players on the defensive side of the ball against Oregon. This is not good as the defense has sustained an unprecedented amount of injuries so far this season.

Luckily a few players have already returned. DE Jaelan Phillips and LB DeChaun Holiday have slowly worked their way back on the field. On offense OL Sunny Odogwu finally made an appearance after transferring from Miami over the summer.

The worry here is the defensive line. With potentially three players out this week, mixed with the notion that UCLA’s run defense has severely underachieved, this becomes a huge issue. Not only are the Bruins going to dip into their depth, but a lot of that will come from youth, who will have to quickly be brought up to speed. Not the best timing considering the Bruins are going to face the best Pac-12 team this weekend.
