The UCLA Football team got their third commit in as many days as 4-star TE Jimmy Jaggers has committed to the Bruins.

The turn of the calendar from July to August has been very kind to UCLA football. For the third day in a row, the Bruins have landed a commitment and today’s BOOM is a big one, as they picked up 4-star tight end Jimmy Jaggers (Roseville, CA/Roseville) to shore up a position of great need and end a source of tremendous frustration in recent months.

Among the more baffling things in UCLA’s summer recruiting struggles was the reticence of tight end recruits — particularly from 3-star über-Bruin legacy Erik Krommenhoek, who chose to commit to USC instead — to jump on the oodles of playing time on offer in UCLA’s new pro-style offense for tight ends and the high probability that any incoming tight ends would likely be entrenched as starters at tight end from the moment their Letters of Intent landed in Westwood.

Thankfully for UCLA Football Head Coach Jim Mora and his staff, one of the better ones on the West Coast finally saw the light and pledged to be a Bruin today.

Jaggers is the precisely the kind of tight end UCLA is currently lacking: a pure in-line type who is an absolutely mauling blocker.

While Jaggers is not yet a graceful pass-catcher, UCLA already has players like recent signee Jordan Wilson who can perform those duties at the tight end spot, so Jaggers’s talents will be unique on the UCLA two-deep and provide much-needed reinforcement on the edges for an UCLA offensive line whose future depth looks thin and in need of protection for its future tackles.

UCLA will probably be satisfied with Jaggers as the lone tight end commit in the class and happy to move its focus at tight end to the 2018 class and elite prospect Brevin Jordan (Las Vegas, CA/Bishop Gorman), but it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if the Bruins decide to pursue one more tight end as the season goes on and they see a need for even greater numbers to have a truly competitive tight end depth chart.
