The writers of this fine UCLA site are back once again as Go Joe Bruin Predicts The Game against the Washington State Cougars.

UCLA 49 – 38 WSU
One of the nation’s best passing attacks against one of the nation’s best pass defenses. The game will come down to whether the Cougs can run on the UCLA defense and how well the Bruins can exploit a vulnerable WSU defense.

UCLA rocked the black uniforms and were tremendously successful on both sides of the ball earlier in the season against one Air Raid team in Cal. They’ll be hoping that all those things come together in the same way against another Air Raid team in Washington State.
The key to this game is going to be UCLA’s ability to get a pass rush on Luke Falk out of its base nickel defense. If UCLA ends Takkarist McKinley and Deon Hollins can terrorize the Washington State offensive line the way that it did Oregon State’s, then UCLA should win comfortably since the Bruins will likely to be able to find offensive success through Paul Perkins‘s legs and/or Josh Rosen‘s arm. If Falk is able to sit in the pocket, play his game of quick passes for 6-7 yards at a time, and make the UCLA defense linger on the field, then this frisky Wazzu squad has a real chance to pull the upset. With the roll that the Cougars are on coming into this game, I’m gonna say that their confidence will unfortunately carry them to an upset.

Washington State 27 – UCLA 42
With Luke Falk, with the air raid offense, with the option it provides, Washington State will try to utilize the entire field at all times. What the Bruins need to do is add pressure, but only with four players, just like they did against Cal. The Bruins should not be blitzing a lot against Wazzu because they are going to make their defense very vulnerable. They need to disguise their blitzes so Falk cannot recognize it, otherwise, Falk will eat the Bruin defense alive.

The Bruins had their best game of the season last week, shutting out Oregon State 41-0 on the road.
The Bruins rose 4 spots in the College Football Playoff rankings to #19 and they’ll now face an underrated Washington State team.
But I think they’ll continue to play well this week, especially offensively, and they should walk out of the Rose Bowl for the last time this season with a victory.
This could be a trap game for UCLA, but I think they will head out and put any scares to rest.

Washington State 38 – UCLA 48
UCLA got a lot of confidence back in their 41-0 shut out of Oregon State which will help them mentally prepare for Washington State. Wazzu has one of the most potent passing games in the country, but they will be tested against a Bruin team that has one of the best passing defenses in the conference. If the UCLA D can slow down the air raid offense, that will give the Bruin O time to do their magic as they should have a slight advantage over the Beaver defense.
