We are back for the seventh edition of ‘Go Joe Bruin Predicts The Game’. This time we have the battle of the UCs as the California Golden Bears travel to the Rose Bowl to face the UCLA Bruins.

Cal 45 – UCLA 49 The offense has a bounce-back game, while the thin defense is severely tested by Cal’s potent aerial assault. Turnovers could be key.

Cal 45-UCLA 34
This game is a great chance for UCLA’s offensive and defensive lines to reassert themselves as forces to be reckoned with. But coming off a demoralizing loss at Stanford and heading into a game that will be played in front of a sparse Rose Bowl crowd on a Thursday night, not much seems to be trending the Bruins’ way at the moment.
Ultimately, UCLA’s defense will continue to bend and break against Cal’s potent offense, as the Golden Bears outscore the Bruins to bury any chance of UCLA winning the Pac-12 South in 2015.

Cal 27 – UCLA 30
The Bruins are going to win, hopefully, because they control the ball and keep Goff off the field as much as possible. That is what I am hoping and praying for because I do not want to see three straight losses, please Bruins!

Cal 31 – UCLA 14
At this point in time, UCLA is in a tailspin. The Bruins have been plagued by an inconsistent offense, and defense still reeling from MAJOR losses, and they couldn’t break the curse against Stanford last week as they were routed in Palo Alto.
Hopefully the Bruins can show some improvement — particularly defensively — as they head back to the Rose Bowl on Thursday, but a matchup against a very much improved Cal team with a usually high-octane offense won’t help UCLA.
They certainly need to improve their play in the secondary if they want to keep up with the Golden Bears, but that will be very difficult to do against Jared Goff and Co.
Hopefully they do show some of those signs, but I don’t see the Bruins winning on Thursday.

UCLA Bruins
Cal 37 – UCLA 38
UCLA has sustained several injuries this season and though they have depth, it is being tapped into and bringing up a lot of youth and inexperience. Though I hope the coaches have every player in the right mindset for the game against Cal, the question is, how ready are those players going to be on an individual level?
As for the offense, Offensive Coordinator Noel Mazzone needs to try to establish the run. We know that Josh Rosen can throw, but the Bruins are not going to be effective unless they have Paul Perkins running the rock.
As for the defense, the rushing defense is porous at best, but the Bruins have been doing very well with the pass defense. That might work to their advantage in Cal’s “Bear Raid”.
Still the Jared Goff let Bears have been surprising a lot of people the season so I do expect them to come in fighting against the Bruins, but I think UCLA might be able to pull this one out especially with the mindset of having lost two games. This game is not about losing a third it’s about getting back to winning.
