  • After a reachable deficit at halftime (Oregon 21 – UCLA 10), the Bruins could not capitalize on the momentum of a touchdown in the last minute of the first half.

UCLA received the ball to start the third quarter, but did nothing with it. The Bruins punted away to Oregon who scored on their next drive. Marcus Mariota had fumbled the ball near the line of scrimmage at the 23-yard line, but was able to recover and take it in for the TD untouched. It was that kind of day for the Bruins. On UCLA’s next drive, Brett Hundley was doing well getting the Bruins down the field, but blew it when Ifo Ekpre-Olomu intercepted a pass. Two plays later, the Ducks got on the board again when Byron Marshall scored from 6 yards out. Oregon 35 – UCLA 10

UCLA had no fire as they ended up punting on their next possession as well. NOTHING was working for them.

The Bruins were not in a good place but found some relief when they stopped Oregon on 4th and goal at the Bruins 3 yard line to end the 3rd quarter. It is the little victories, I guess, but the bigger perspective had UCLA looking down the barrel of a gun.

On the first drive of the fourth, Oregon was able to keep doing what they did all game and march down the field. Once agin, they scored as they only needed four plays to go 70 yards. Oregon 42 – UCLA 10.

UCLA got on the board again when Hundley hit Jordan Payton in the end zone, with just under 10 minutes left. Myles Jack punched the ball in after Oregon was called for the pass interference on a pass for the first of two 2-point attempts. Jack dived ahead for the conversion. Oregon 42 – UCLA 18

UCLA had kept going, but it seemed futile as Oregon had built up a substantial lead. Nate Starks ran the ball in for a 9-yard score. The Bruins had followed that up with a missed 2-point conversion. Oregon 42 – UCLA 24

    More from UCLA Bruins Football

On the kickoff, the Bruin had recovered an onside kick. On the ensuing drive, the Bruins actually looked good, especially getting the ball to Jordan Payton who had made some incredible plays which included a 25-yard TD catch. Oregon 42 – UCLA 30

The Bruins attempted another onside kick but Oregon recovered and that was pretty much the game. The Bruins had now lost twice at the Rose Bowl in consecutive weeks.

So where does UCLA go from here? Not the College Football Playoffs, I’ll tell you that. Maybe they can squeak into the Pac-12 Championship Game, but it would take a miracle. For now, the Bruins need to figure out what is happening with their program, namely, the work of their coordinators.
