Landon Ellis looks entrenched as a starter at the outside receiver position. He was one of the big players brought over this offseason in the transfer portal by UCLA. Being one of the many players from James Madison to follow Bob Chesney to his new home. Ellis is a big target that has big playability at the receiver position. He looks to show that ability with UCLA in 2026 and cement his NFL Draft status for the 2027 draft.

Ellis had some great plays for James Madison in 2025. Which included them making it to the College Playoff. He has sleeper speed and is able to stretch the field with his big frame. As he stands at 6’1 and 212 pounds. He was a 3-star transfer that ranked No. 125 among receivers and No. 687 among all transfers. That is largely due to the fact that James Madison is a smaller school.

But don’t let that cloud the fact that he is a very good player. The soon to be senior had 36 catches for 624 yards last year. His 17.3 yards per catch is considered a very elite number. With another big framed receiver in Leland Smith on the other side. That will give Ellis plenty of chances to make plays in 2026. Proving that he can do it at a bigger school compared to what James Madison was.

The big positive as well as Ellis is very familiar in Dean Kennedy’s system. He is the offensive coordinator that also came over from James Madison. So, he will be able to quickly pick up the offense and the motions and sets. Ellis is a player to watch out for in 2026 and will be a prime target for returning quarterback, Nico Iamaleava. As UCLA greatly improved their offense compared to 2025.
