Landon Ellis was another big addition that UCLA brought in through the transfer portal. The receiver who had a breakout season for James Madison last year. Is seen as a guy who will help the Bruins on the outside. Giving Nico Iamaleava a big target to throw too in his bounce back campaign. Pairing him with Leland Smith, the Bruins look prepared to have a good offense as they navigate the Big Ten. Ellis is a big, bodied receiver that can get down the field and get a jump ball. The Bruins will be able to space the field out well and there is now plenty of talent on the field to get things done.

Ellis was part of the James Madison team that made the College Football Playoff in 2025. Once they were bounced by Oregon. Ellis made the decision to follow Bob Chesney and Dean Kennedy out to UCLA. Believing he could take the next step at a bigger school. The traits are there and the talent can make him a guy that can put himself onto draft radars. The 6’2 and 213 pound junior had 36 catches for 624 yards last season to go along with five touchdowns. The 17.3 yards per reception is phenomenal, displaying his downfield ability.
Landon Ellis knows the system and that will pay dividends
Now he becomes a new target for Iamaleava and knows the system he will be running. Which allows him to hit the ground with full speed as soon as he gets into camp. He figures to play a big role on this Bruins offense. One that should see some explosive games. Something that was lacking in the 2025 season. UCLA is now equipped with a long-term staff that should provide stability. Allowing Ellis, the opportunity to have a big year and help get this Bruins team back in bowl contention.
You have to respect how aggressive James Madison has been early … especially with the double pass on third and long.
