Braden Pegan had a great season for Utah State this past season. One that we highlighted last week and how he went from no playing time at UCLA to top option. Now with him hitting the transfer portal, could UCLA be an option for round two? Pegan is a receiver that has good strides and route running. Paired with great size and height at 6’4 and 210 pounds, that allows him to go up and beat corners for jump balls. He was an All-Mountain West First Team selection as Utah State went 6-6 on the season.

With 60 catches and 926 yards receiving on the season and five touchdowns. That is production that UCLA could desperately use to retool the offense with Nico Iamaleava back in fold. The Bruins who struggled to push the ball downfield could use Pegan to stretch the defense out. Knowing that he will have a size advantage over almost every cornerback. It has been years since UCLA has had a guy that you can throw the ball up too and know every play has a chance. UCLA will look to build their offensive line which will help with Iamaleava getting time to survey options.

Kwazi Gilmer would be able to benefit from this as well. He has a ton of potential and can run very good intermediate routes in traffic. Gilmer is still a member of the Bruins and has given no indications that he would leave via the transfer portal. The familiarity with Iamaleava could help the transition to a new coaching staff. Pegan would be able to open up the offense and allow smooth routes to unfold. It is hard to judge what the ceiling for the offense could be with the pocket collapsing so fast on plays.

Pegan could make a welcome entrance back to his home state. There are no words on if he felt slighted by not getting an opportunity at UCLA. But that was two coaching staffs that are no longer here. Chesney could help his NFL Draft hopes and integrate him into Dean Kennedy’s offense. The transfer portal season has never been as exciting as it is now. As we expect UCLA to be major players right off the bat under Chesney. Pegan for another go around could be a tremendous start.
