In episode 211 of the ‘What’s Bruin Show’, we take a look at UCLA basketball’s recruiting efforts, UCLA football’s commitments and coach rankings, UCLA baseball’s insane statistics, and UCLA softball hosting the NCAA regionals and postseason awards.

In the latest episode of WBS, host Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I take a look at the abundance of the goings-on with several UCLA teams.

We start the show with the Go Joe Bruin headlines as we look at what is happening on the diamonds. Over the weekend, the UCLA softball team found out that they are the overall 2-seed in the Women’s College World Series. After a season that resulted in a regular season finish of 46-5 and a share of the Pac-12 Championship, the Bruins are once again hosting an NCAA regional (their sixth consecutive).

More from Go Joe Bruin

Starting Friday, UCLA takes on Weber State, Missouri, and Cal State Fullerton in a double elimination bracket. The winner heads to the Super Regional the following weekend. In addition, we look at the plethora of Bruins that earned All-Pac-12 honors, including the Pac-12 Pitcher and Player of the Year, Rachel Garcia.

The same type of success is hitting the UCLA baseball team who claimed the #1 spot in the standings for the 9th week in a row. And how are they doing this? With a well-rounded effort by everyone on the team. We look at several stats that show UCLA at the top of several individual and team stats, which is resulting in top-tier baseball performance.

We then transition to UCLA basketball, which has been making some (unfortunate) recruiting headlines. With combo guard Boogie Ellis picking Memphis over UCLA, we look at other options for the Bruins, including holding onto that extra scholarship for the next recruiting cycle. We also examine the projected starting lineup by a national college basketball analyst who made a few curious selections.

We then look at all of the happenings with the UCLA football team in regards to recruiting, which is, so far, more successful than last season. We then look at where Chip Kelly lands in a recent ranking of college football coaches.
