In episode 210 of the ‘What’s Bruin Show’, we cover a lot of ground with Bruins sports, including beach volleyball and natty #117, baseball’s dominance, a UCLA basketball roundup and a recruit eyeing UCLA football.

In this latest episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I welcome back Jamaal Artis, meaning we have a packed house for this show, which is perfect as we have a lot to cover in this week in UCLA sports.

We start things off with UCLA beach volleyball’s second consecutive national title which brought banner #117 to UCLA. What made things even sweeter is that they beat USC to achieve this feat. Though USC defeated UCLA in the previous three meetings, our examination shows that the Bruins completely dominated the Trojans to win the national championship.

So is there another national title on the horizon? It might be in the cards for baseball and softball. The baseball team remained the top squad in the nation for the 8th consecutive week after a dominant showing at ASU over the weekend which included an 18-3 win on Saturday that earned Jack Ralston the honor of Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week.

And though Softball has slipped to 3rd in the national rankings, they are still as dominant as ever as they are 45-3 on the year. If they keep this up, they will once again host a first-round regional in the Women’s College World Series.

We then give our thoughts on the Pac-12’s plan to expand the men’s conference schedule to 20 games. Is this a good idea or did they not go far enough?

And how about some UCLA basketball talk, which there was a lot to discuss. We seem to agree that Mick Cronin is doing a bang up job thus far as he is bringing in reliable assistant coaches plus, he is making an impact on the recruiting trail. Though we are a ways away from the start of the season, this looks like it will have a significant impact on the program moving forward.

We then have a little chat about UCLA football’s latest recruiting target, a quarterback that can hurt defenses with his arm and his legs.
