What’s Bruin Show (209) – Wayne Cook discusses UCLA football’s spring
In episode 209 of the ‘What’s Bruin Show,’ former UCLA football QB Wayne Cook returns to the show to discuss the Bruins’ Spring Game and the NFL Draft.
In this episode, Jake Merrifield and I patch together a show that wasn’t supposed to happen. In the end, we had a fantastic discussion about the UCLA football team with Wayne Cook.

Before all of that, we start things out with the Go Joe Bruin headlines as we talk about the lackluster results of the NFL Draft. With TE Caleb Wilson taken by the Arizona Cardinals with the final selection in the draft, he is not only “Mr. Irrelevant,” but was the only Bruin taken in this year’s draft.

With Wilson projected to go between the 3rd and 6th round and OL Andre James expected to be taken in the later rounds, this was quite the “irrelevant” draft for the Bruins. Jake and I discuss why this might have happened and what this means for UCLA football.
If you have not noticed, UCLA’s baseball and softball teams are doing very well this season. We discuss how the baseball team is rolling as they are no. 1 in the country for the 7th week in a row and how pitcher Ryan Garcia is having an awe-inspiring season depsite missing the first 12 games.
The softball team is having an equally dominant time as they have also been at the top of the standings for several weeks. This past weekend, the Bruins’ pitchers came out in full force as Rachel Garcia, Holly Azevedo and Megan Faraimo all dominated in their wins.
We then discuss a little bit of off-season basketball as Kris Wilkes and Jaylen Hands have been invited to the NBA Combine. Have they improved enough from last season to get high marks for the NBA Draft?
Jake and I then talk about Ben Bolch’s article in the LA Times which went behind-the-scenes with the UCLA basketball coaching search. There was a lot of information we expected, but even more that opened our eyes.
And then the moment you have all been waiting for, our discussion with Wayne Cook as we talk about the state of the UCLA football team after the spring. Cook also gives us his thoughts on what happened with the draft. Either way, it’s Wayne Cook, so listen now!
