The UCLA Gymnastics team repeated as Pac-12 Champions on Saturday with their best performance of the season as they are saving their best for last as Miss Val’s final season winds down.

Depsite nearly running through the regular season with a perfect record, the UCLA gymnastics team is saving the best for last. That was apparent on Saturday when the Bruins not only won their 19th Pac-12 Championship but won four individual championships and three individual honors.

UCLA had bested the other seven teams as they scored a season-high and a Pac-12 Championship record 198.400. This was due to the Bruins winning or tying every single event, including the all-around.

UCLA started out on the vault where Felicia Hano landed a score 9.950, tying with Utah’s MyKayla Skinner. As a team, UCLA had a collective score of 49.425, which just short of Utah’s 49.575 after one rotation.

The Bruins kicked things up a notch in the second event as Kyla Ross scored another perfect 10. Not only was it her fifth on the bars this season and her 10th 10 of her career, but her score boosted the Bruins over the Utes to takes the lead, 99.075-98.875.

The Bruins still had the lead after the third rotation when two Bruins were individual winners on the balance beam as Katelyn Ohashi and Grace Glenn (who tied her career-high) scored 9.95.

The Pac-12 title was solidified when it came to UCLA’s fourth rotation, their bread and butter. The floor rotation has been magical for the Bruins this season and continued to be so as both Ross and Ohashi scored perfect 10s. They shared the individual floor crown with Utah’s Skinner who also scored a 10. Their performances gave UCLA the final score of 198.400 and their second consecutive Pac-12 Championship.

Ross came away as both the individual All-Around winner and the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year Award. Ohashi landed herself as the Specialist of the Year while Valerie Kondos Field completed the triple-threat as she was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year.

UCLA now prepares for the NCAA Regionals which is the precursor to the NCAA Championships. These two events will be the last two meets that Miss Val will lead the Bruins into battle.
