UCLA football 2020 target and 4-star safety Lathan Ransom (Salpointe Catholic/Tucson, AZ) has the Bruins in his Top 14 after receiving a scholarship from the ‘8Clap8th’.
If anything, UCLA football‘s recruiting gimmick, the ‘8Clap8th’, is getting the attention of its intended targets.
Within the last week, the Bruins received their first commitment for 2020 as DE/OLB Jay Max Jacobsen gave his pledge to the blue and gold. On Thursday, another target took a step closer to becoming a Bruin as 6’2, 200 lbs. Arizona product Lathan Ransom has UCLA football in his Top 14.

Ransom had originally received an offer from UCLA during the first round of ‘8Clap8th’ scholarship offers back in February. He was one of three defensive backs to receive an offer.
Ransom is a very exciting player that has a surfeit of skills. One can label him like a heat-seeking missile as he can come out of nowhere and drop a player with a combination of speed, strength, and vision. Not only does he have great pursuit, especially when he starts out of the defensive backfield, but he is also a very capable pass rusher when he starts off near the line. Either way, he can effortlessly get behind and around blockers and track down ball carriers and lay the boom.
He also has very capable hands. If he is in the right place at the right time, he will pull down passes for the interception. He is also a very dangerous kick returner as he can get downfield in a hurry with his speed and elusiveness.
The UCLA coaching staff has been doing well with recruiting defensive backs, but if they want to kick things up a notch, they have to stay on Ransom and do what they can to bring him to Westwood. Not only will he become a great fit for defensive coordinator Jerry Azzinaro and his system, but will excel with their schemes and gameplan.
Ransom is currently considering UCLA along with Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Cal, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford, Texas, and Washington.
