UCLA Basketball: Two incoming freshman win the John R. Wooden Award

Charisma Osborne and Jaime Jaquez, two incoming freshmen for both the women’s and men’s UCLA basketball teams, received the John R. Wooden Award.

The women’s and men’s UCLA basketball teams are bringing in some award winners next season as point guard Charisma Osborne (Windward/Los Angeles, CA) and Jaime Jaquez, Jr. (Camarillo/Camarillo, CA) were both honored with John R. Wooden Award.

The John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year Award is presented annually by the Los Angeles Athletic Club and is given to several student-athletes across multiple divisions of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section and Los Angeles City Section.

Osborne had won the award as the Player of the Year in the CIF Southern Section Open Division. While at Windward, she helped the Wildcats to a 26-6 record, making them the 5th ranked girls team in the state of California and 10th in the national rankings.

Osborne comes to Westwood as a 5-star recruit and #22 overall player in the nation according to ESPN. She will join a star-studded cast of recruits at UCLA next season which includes 5-star PG Jaden Owens, 4-star guard Camryn Brown and 4-star forward Brynn Masikewich which makes up the #10 recruiting class in the country.

Jaquez won the award in the CIF Southern Section Divison II as he was co-Player of the Year along with Josh Christopher from Mayfair. Jaquez had helped Camarillo High School to a 25-4 record and a ranking of 29th in California. Jaquez had averaged 31.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game.

Jaquez is one of two players that will join the UCLA men’s team next season along with 3-star wingman Jake Kyman.
