In episode 199 of the ‘What’s Bruin Show’, Pac-12 Hotline’s Jon Wilner joins us to talk about the state of Pac-12 and UCLA basketball.

In this latest episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I had the pleasure of having The Godfather of the Pac-12, Jon Wilner, back on the show as he gives us the low down on several issues surrounding the Pac-12 and UCLA basketball, both of which are having down seasons.

The Pac-12 Conference has fallen on hard times and Wilner has been there to cover it all. From the conference’s separation with AT&T U-verse to the Network’s loss in viewership to, most recently, writing about the importance of UCLA basketball and USC football’s success to the conference, Wilner has his hand on the pulse of everything that is flowing through the Conference of Champions.

More from Go Joe Bruin

Right now, UCLA basketball is in a rough patch which has, in part, been a big reason why the Pac-12 is down. The same goes for USC football, but do these two programs carry that much water in the conference? We talk to Wilner about what other programs can help lift the conference and who, if any, are holding up their end of the bargain.

And for all of you jonesing for some football talk, Wilner discusses some of the latest news in the conference like Oregon losing their defensive coordinator and what quarterbacks will surprise next season.

After our chat with Wilner, we then have our own discussion about the state of UCLA basketball and ask the question, “why are we still watching?” Is there anything else we can take away from this season or should fans just look toward next year?

We then revisit our discussion on who the next UCLA coach should be and what the Bruins need for next season. Is Tony Bennett a reality? Is Rick Pitino a real candidate?
