It is episode 197 of the ‘What’s Bruin Show’… our annual UCLA Football National Signing Day show! We recap what went on with the Bruins and take a look at who the newest players that will don the blue and gold!
In this episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I bring you our annual National Signing Day show as we recap the day that was with UCLA football and their newest members of the program.
We start off with a very detailed conversation with our friend and recruiting specialist Michael Hanna who gives a very exhaustive account of exactly what has happened with UCLA’s recruiting efforts. You can read more on his thoughts about the subject in his poignant piece, National Signing Day 2019 Post-Mortem.

We then talk about what exactly went wrong with recruiting. For those that are unaware, this was a very underwhelming NSD, which was due to several reasons.
First off, the Early Signing Period has taken some of the glamour away from the day as the majority of recruits (with all programs, not just UCLA), signed back in December.
Secondly, UCLA has not seemed to adjust to the early period, putting them behind the eight ball with some recruits, which limited them to signing only three players on NSD.
Third, Kelly’s recruiting plan might need to be altered a bit as the current process has a lot to be desired.
But we do not just lament the unimpressive signing day as there are several recruits we are very excited to see next season. We give a detailed breakdown of who the Bruins brought in, at what position, and who will contribute immediately.
