What’s Bruin Show chats with UCLA basketball/football announcer Josh Lewin
In this special episode of the ‘What’s Bruin Show’, we talked with UCLA basketball and football announcer Josh Lewin who gives us his takes on both Bruins teams.
In this latest episode, hosts Jake Merrifield and I had the pleasure of talking with another heavy-hitter as Josh Lewin joined us to talk about UCLA basketball and football.

We start things off with the Go Joe Bruin headlines as there has been a lot of activity with the football team and both basketball teams. The football team added a new commitment, which is the second since the early signing period.

The men’s team were able to stop a three-game skid with a beatdown of Arizona, while the women’s team got a hard-fought sweep in the desert.
We then get into a deep conversation about football and basketball as Lewin joins us to give us his thoughts on where both teams are heading. But before we do that, we talk a little bit about his illustrious background in sports broadcasting which has spanned from the NHL to the MLB to the NFL to college sports. If you didn’t know by now, Lewin is the real deal and we were grateful to have him.
Lewin then talks about what is going on with the UCLA basketball team in the aftermath of the termination of Steve Alford. The Bruins looked like they were reinvigorated in their first two games under Murry Bartow but reverted back to their Alfordian ways in the four games after, which Lewin expounds on.
We then talk about the Bruins’ trajectory heading into the rest of this season and discuss if they are setting themselves up for postseason play.
And it would not be a WBS episode if we did not talk about UCLA football which Lewin was more than happy to talk about. Though the Bruins were 3-9, Lewin gives us his insight on the progress that was made in Chip Kelly’s first year and what we can expect next season.
