The UCLA football team received another commitment this week as kicker Nick Barr-Mira is heading to Westwood. If his name sounds familiar, its because he is the younger brother of former Bruin Anthony Barr.

The UCLA football team just received their 11th commitment to the 2019 class and their second this week as kicker Nick Barr-Mira (Loyola HS/Los Angeles, CA) has given his pledge to the Bruins.

Only a few days after receiving an offer from special teams coach Roy Manning, the 6’0, 175-pound kicker from Southern California has verbally committed to the Bruins.

You also might notice that his name looks familiar. That is because Barr-Mira is the younger brother of former UCLA and current Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr.

The Bruins are in need of a kicker as next season will be current starter JJ Molson’s last. With a year to crossover with the seasoned veteran, Barr-Mira will be able to learn from a player that received an honorable mention by the Pac-12.

Though he will be brought in for kicking duties (which includes both field goal attempts and kickoffs), he also has experience as a punter, though the Bruins also have a punter that has family ties to UCLA. Collin Flintoft, who is the cousin of former Bruins punter Stefan Flintoft, joined the Bruins this season as a walk-on.

Barr-Mira is the second player in two days to commit to the Bruins as top-rated west coast tackle Sean Rhyan gave Chip Kelly his commitment for the 2019 class.

The recruiting process has been slow going in the last few months, but with coaches able to visit recruits and UCLA not having to worry about preparing for a bowl (they will miss the postseason this year due to their 3-9 record), Kelly and his staff and making up ground and have been visit prospects and targets this whole week.
