UCLA Football: The good, the bad and the Bruins vs. Utah
The UCLA football team had their Bruins handed to them on Friday night as Utah laid the smackdown in a 41-10 win. There was not much good, a lot of bad and only a few Bruin highlights.
In this edition of “The Good, The Bad and The Bruins”, the UCLA football team, well, they were pretty bad.

The Bruins started off pretty well, but things got out of hand pretty quickly. Let us see what unfolded in this contest…
The Good

Offense: Although he was not able to reach 100 yards for a fifth consecutive game, Joshua Kelley came very close as he put up 90 yards with a 5.6 average per carry and one touchdown. Hey, silver linings!
Defense: Quentin Lake is developing into a solid defensive back who has an eye for the ball. For the second week in a row, he saved a touchdown against with an interception in the end zone. If only the rest of the defense can follow suit.
The Bad
Offense: Wilton Speight did a decent job filling in for Dorian Thompson-Robinson, but his inaccuracy is not good for offensive cohesion. He also had two interceptions and no touchdowns. It also did not help that the receivers dropped key passes. UCLA was way below their passing average on the season as they were only able to get 164 yards through the air.
Defense: The run defense has reverted back to Jim Mora-era numbers. UCLA gave up 325 yards on the ground, 211 of which Utah’s Zack Moss accomplished on his own. Tackling was bad, the execution was bad, it was all bad, bad, bad.
Special Teams: A muffed punt by Adarius Pickett, is not good. It led to a Utah field goal. It’s never good when a turnover leads to points for the opponent. In fact, it is bad.
The Bruins
Offense: The top Bruin on offense was once again Kelley. Despite the offense’s woes, he was still able to churn out 5.6 yards per attempt. We will take that everytime.
Defense: This one goes to two Bruins. Tyree Thompson put out the extra effort and had a team-high 11 tackles. Keisean Lucier-South had five tackles, one of which went for a loss as well as a pass break up.

UCLA’s next game is Saturday, November 3 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene against the Oregon Ducks.
