The UCLA football team welcomes the Utah Utes to the Rose Bowl and if the Bruins get a win, they could find themselves in first place in the Pac-12 South Division. Will it happen? The writers of Go Joe Bruin tell you as we predict the game!

So which UCLA football team will show up against Utah on Friday night? The muscley-armed studs that faced Washington and Cal or the head-on-a-swivel Bruins that got a reality check from the Arizona Wildcats?

There are a lot of things on the line when UCLA plays Utah, but the biggest thing that will come out of all of this is that the Bruins will gain respect if they beat this Utes squad which has been on fire in their last three games. Will it happen? Let us find out…

The Bruins will look strong against Utah, but ultimately get put in their place in the latter part of the game. UCLA’s offense continues to show improvement, but defense gets gassed after being unable to slow down Utah QB Tyler Huntley. Bright side: Joshua Kelley gets his 5th game of 100+ yards rushing. Utah 35 – UCLA 28

I’d originally circled this game as a chance to snag an upset, with Utah on the road after a short week. But they’ve looked so dominant in their past couple games and found an offense to go with their already elite defense. Nothing is impossible, of course, but even the UCLA team that we saw against Cal would have their hands full with this Utah team, and that was the best we’ve looked in years. After the Arizona game and the Dorian Thompson-Robinson injury, I can’t say with confidence what UCLA will even bring to the table on Friday. Utah 31 – UCLA 21

This is just a bad matchup for UCLA. Utah has been eating up yards on the ground, burning teams in the air, and stifling them almost completely on defense. UCLA is facing a Utah team operating on all cylinders. The Bruins’ only hope in this game (short of an intervention from Obi-Wan Kenobi) is that they are able to bounce back to their Cal level of performance while also catching the Utes on a downer playing a Friday night road game just six days after a huge win at home against USC. Utah 37 – UCLA 24

“F, it, why not?” UCLA 24 – Utah 23

Bill Connelly projects a 12.5 margin, but I’ll give UCLA some room to eat into that because Pac-12 Friday home teams consistently have an edge. Utah is going to stifle the UCLA run game, but UCLA will be able to move the ball in the air. Huntley will do to the UCLA defense what Montez did (run for first when we really need a stop). Utah 27 – UCLA 19

I am going to abstain from putting my faith in the progress UCLA has fabricated in the last few weeks, as promising as it has been. Utah has a panoply of athletes on both sides of the ball that are performing at their peak. The Utes eradicated USC last week and signs point to Utah conjuring up the same result against the Bruins, especially if UCLA performs they way they did against Arizona. Why can’t we have nice things?

Unless they learn and grow from their missteps from last week, we might have another murky outcome. I hope not, but I need proof otherwise. Utah 38 – UCLA 14.
