In episode184 of ‘What’s Bruin Show’, we take a look at the massive progress UCLA football had against Washington and look ahead to the fight with Big Brother. Is the first win of the season in sight?
In this latest episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I welcome back Jamaal Artis for a very special reason… it is BEAT CAL week! Artis, an alum of UC Berkeley, joins the show to help give insight to the UCLA football team’s Battle in the Bay. But before we do that, we have a lot to discuss as the Bruins showed life against #10 Washington.

We start the show with Go Joe Bruin Headlines as we quickly discuss the UCLA women’s basketball team. With Jordin Canada and Monique Billings moving on, what will the Bruins look like this coming season?

We also briefly discuss the men’s team as they suffered another blow to their roster. Freshman PG Tyger Campbell is out for the season with an ACL tear and we talk about how the Bruins will accommodate for the loss.
As we turn to football, we look at the improvements the Bruins made, especially on offense. UCLA has had one of the worst offenses in the nation and they put up a fight against Washington, a team that has one of the best defenses in the country.
The Bruins were very good at every position group which led to their best outing of the year. They put more points and yards on Washington than any team has this season. Hashtag, progress.
With that in mind, we examine the benchmarks we set for the Bruins from the last episode and to our surprise, they met a lot of them. Hashtag, Go Us!
UCLA is still winless, but that could change this weekend. The Bruins head up to Cal to face a team that is in a similar situation, though they have a better record (3-2). Artis chimes in to help us understand the Cal football team and what we should expect from his Bears. Their defense is stellar, but their offense has a few things to work out.
So can UCLA get their first win of the season in Berkeley?
