The UCLA football team has an easier contest than last week as they take on Fresno State, but it is not going to be a given. Here is what Go Joe Bruin is predicting for this game…

One would think UCLA football‘s 28-loss to Oklahoma would be a bad thing. And don’t get us wrong, it is, but there were a few things in that game that gave Bruins’ fans hope.

Because of that, the writers of Go Joe Bruin feel the game against Fresno State will be a little bit better for the Bruins. Hopefully ending with a “W”.

UCLA’s offense finally finds its rhythm and its defense continues to improve. Bruins take this much-needed win as a confidence booster heading into the bye week, and then begin preparations for the red-hot Buffalos. UCLA 24 – Fresno State 14

With Jaelen Phillips back (hopefully), the UCLA pass rush and secondary give Marcus McMaryion fits and render Fresno State’s offense one dimensional. The Bruin offense continues to make incremental progress. UCLA 24 – Fresno State 20

More from Go Joe Bruin

In a defense-heavy slopfest reminiscent of the season opener vs Cincinnati, UCLA makes enough plays and limits enough mistakes to be on the winning side of the battle. UCLA 19 – Fresno State 17

Jake Merrifield

The Bruin offense takes another step forward and takes some pressure off the defense. The baby Bruins learned to crawl thru the first two games, now they learn to walk. UCLA 28 – Fresno State 24

David Rosenthal

Both teams will have trouble scoring as the defense will show up for both teams. Big plays by Jaelan Phillips will be the difference in the game as the Bruins finally get their first victory under Chip Kelly. UCLA 17 – Fresno State 14

Mike Regalado

After last week’s game against Oklahoma, the Bruins will build on the many improvements they made on both offense and defense. UCLA lost by 28, but there were several interesting takeaways from that game. Against Fresno State, UCLA should play with a bit more gusto, especially on defense. The Bruins’ aggressive style of play has been a breath of fresh air and they should be able to stop the run.

The offense is a different story as it has been hard to put together consecutive drives. Still, this is one the Bruins should continue to improve on and get the win. UCLA 28 – Fresno State 20
