Former UCLA basketball player Jordin Canada is a WNBA Champion after the Seattle Storm sweep the Washington Mystics to capture their 3rd overall title.

UCLA. Champions made here. And now the greatest university on the planet can add another achievement to their proud legacy as former Bruin Jordin Canada is a WNBA Champion with the Seattle Storm.

This was not even close. Seattle not only dismantled Washington with a 98-82 win, but it was a series-clinching game as the Storm swept the Mystics in three straight to take their 3rd championship in the franchise’s history.

More from Go Joe Bruin

Washington had advanced from their semifinal series against the Atlanta Dream, another team that drafted a Bruin during the 2018 WNBA Draft. Despite finishing second overall in the regular season, Monique Billings and Atlanta fell to the Mystics 3-2 in the series. Unfortunately, Washington’s mystique ran out when they ran into the Storm.

Seattle had been rolling all season long and finished the regular season with the top overall record, 26-8, giving them the two-round bye in the WNBA Playoffs. After downing the Phoenix Mercury in five, Seattle had no problem holding back Washington.

Breanna Stewart was named MVP after an impressive 24.6 points and 6.9 rebound performance in the playoffs.

And what about Canada? The woman from Westwood has played an important role all season as she has been the Seattle’s Sixth Woman, a role she continued to hold in the playoffs, putting up 6.1 points and 2.3 assists.

Can you imagine that it was only six short months ago that Canada had helped the UCLA basketball team to their furthest march into the NCAA Tournament since 1999? Despite losing to Mississippi State, UCLA had shown that they are a force to be reckoned with moving forward under head coach Cori Close.
