UCLA Basketball: Potential lineups for the 2018-19 season
The Defensive Lineup
- PG: Jaylen Hands
- SG: David Singleton
- SF: Kris Wilkes
- PF: Shareef O’Neal
- C: Jalen Hill
Don’t laugh. UCLA has players that can be called upon to play defense when needed. The thing UCLA has to do is know when to quickly convert defense into offense. The Bruins are not going to lock down teams, but if they can get key steals and rebounds and send them back down the court for points, the Bruins could really tire out some teams. Hill and O’Neal will be especially important in trying to disrupt offenses and with Hands, Singleton and Wilkes helping out on the outside and getting back in transition, the Bruins should be quite an effective turning defense into offense.
The Small Lineup

- PF: David Singleton
- C: Shareef O’Neal
If UCLA wants to go small, they can play a four-guard line up with O’Neal in the post. Campbell and Hands will be needed on the floor together to maximize ball control and having Ali and Singleton in, they should add some speed and shooting. They may not get a lot of rebounds, but if the need to have a controlled offensive set, this is the route they should go.
The Highlight Lineup
- PG: Tyger Campbell
- SG: Jules Bernard
- SF: Kris Wilkes
- PF: Shareef O’Neal
- C: Jalen Hill
This was a hard lineup to come up with. Not only will several of these Bruins produce highlight reels, but they should have a “showtime” mentality from time to time. But if the Bruins really want to set off fireworks, these four Bruins might be able to be the spark. With Campbell leading the way, this lineup should be set up for maximum efficiency and awesomeness. Just imagine how many alley-oops we will be witness to this coming winter. I cannot wait.
UCLA officially begins the 2018-19 season on Saturday, November 6 against Purdue Fort Wayne at Pauley Pavilion.
