For Chip Kelly to have a solid running game, he is going to have to transform the Bruins’ offensive line, which has been a part of two horrendous rushing offenses the last two seasons, into something that can sustain the progress of what he has planned for the run game.

On Tuesday, OL Mike Alves gave some insight into how that is going.
When asked who is snapping the ball (the Bruins have six players working at the center spot), Alves admitted, “We are having trouble snapping right now. We are just trying to get a consistent snap down. It is really hard when you are learning the offense too and technique at the same time.”
When asked who is standing out in the center competition, he said that freshman Chris Murray is looking good.
As for Boss Tagaloa, he is still a weapon for the Bruins on the O-line, but the coaches are looking for the perfect spot for him, whether it be at guard or center.
Alves also gave a lot of praise to Texas Tech transfer Justin Murphy. “He is a beast. He came in the first day and was already putting people on the ground.” The 6-6, 291-pounder is said to be in the running for the starting right tackle position, but nothing is yet set in stone for Kelly.
Alves also commented on the speed of play and said that they had run 18 plays in six minutes. That comes out to 20 seconds between each play consecutively. “I’ve never done that before” Alves said.
