Reports are being released that former UCLA basketball standout Tyler Honeycutt was found dead in a home in Sherman Oaks after a shootout with police.

Late Friday night, ABC7 in Los Angeles had reported that a “UCLA basketball player barricaded himself inside a Sherman Oaks residence”. This was after the suspect had apparently shot at police. The suspect is believed to be former Bruin Tyler Honeycutt.

The incident began on Friday at around 5 p.m. PT at a Sherman Oaks home when Honeycutt’s mother had called the police due to her son acting “erratically”. When police arrived at the scene, Honeycutt had apparently opened fire on them. The police returned fire which lead to the former basketball player barricading himself inside the home.

No police officers were harmed in shooting. It was also reported that at least 30 residents from homes in the surrounding area had been evacuated due to the incident.

Just before 4 a.m. on Saturday morning, members of the Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team had entered the home to find an “unresponsive male” who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into what led to this situation is still ongoing. The cause of death has not been reported.

Honeycutt had played for UCLA for two years at UCLA under former head coach Ben Howland. In 2011, Honeycutt put his name in the NBA Draft was selected 35th overall (2nd Round) by the Sacramento Kings. He had spent only two seasons in the NBA, both with Sacramento.

This is an unfortunate event to have happened and the UCLA family is mourning the loss of one of their own. Rest in peace, Tyler. You will be missed.
