Stanford Cardinal |  HC Record (2-2) | OC Record (2-0) | Total (4-2)

Saturday, November 24

More from Go Joe Bruin

This is going to be another exciting game. Oregon and Stanford games have been essential viewing for any college football fan, especially in the Kelly era at Oregon.

First off, let us put things into perspective over the last eleven years (going back to Kelly’s first season as the Oregon OC). Oregon has won 6 to Stanford’s 5.

In that time, Oregon has won four Pac-12 titles to Stanford’s three (that is seven titles in 11 years combined for both schools). During Kelly’s time in Eugene, he won the conference three times as a head coach. Against Stanford, he had a combined OC/HC record of 4-2.

Thats not bad against one of the best teams on the West Coast over the last decade.

So why does this bring UCLA fans hope? Because Stanford has defeated UCLA the last 10 times they have faced each other. Though a win against the Cardinal might not happen this season, there is a lot of hope for Kelly to slay the giant in the years to come and since UCLA and Stanford play every year, there is plenty of time for Kelly to deconstruct David Shaw and Stanford.

Overall records the teams on the 2018 schedule

As both a head coach and offensive coordinator, Kelly is 33-7. Now that is impressive when you consider the teams he went up against. Kelly had things running like a well-oiled machine at Oregon and it is not hard to believe that he will do the same with UCLA. Though it could take a season or two to regain that kind of success, for Kelly, it could come sooner than expected.
