PASADENA, CA - SEPTEMBER 06: Scott Quessenberry

UCLA Football’s Scott Quessenberry will be staying in a blue and gold uniform this fall as the Los Angeles Chargers drafted the former Bruin center on Saturday in the fifth round (155th overall pick) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

The UCLA football team had their fourth player taken in the 2018 NFL Draft as center Scott Quessenberry was taken by the Los Angeles Chargers. Notably, Quessenberry is Los Angeles’ first offensive player drafted as the Bolts have been focusing on loading up their defense through the first four rounds.

In 2017, Quessenberry anchored UCLA’s offensive line by starting in all 13 games, earning All Pac-12 honorable mentions along the way. Quessenberry first earned these honors after his freshman campaign in 2014 where he spent almost half of the season at the left guard.

Looking ahead, Quessenberry brings a unique combination of size and speed to Los Angeles as the 6-4, 310 lbs. center has a clocked a personal best 5.09 in the 40-yard dash.

The former Bruin will have his work cut out for him, though, as the Chargers picked up Mike Pouncey from the Dolphins last month at the start of the NFL free agency period.

The Bolts also currently have Spencer Pulley listed as a center on their roster. Whether Quessenberry remains at center or not, Bruin fans know very well that this versatile lineman can succeed wherever designated on the offensive front.

Not to be overlooked, Quessenberry follows in the footsteps of his older brother, David, who was drafted in the sixth round (pick 176) By the Houston Texans in the 2013 NFL Draft. David, who overcame non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma last spring, is still listed as a guard on the Texans roster.

Scott Quessenberry is the fourth Bruin to be picked up in the 2018 NFL Draft as standout quarterback Josh Rosen went to the Arizona Cardinals in the first round as the 10th overall pick, while Kolton Miller, another stalwart of UCLA’s offensive line, went to the Oakland Raiders five picks later.

Elsewhere, Kenny Young (LB) was picked up by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round (pick no. 122), while Jordan Lasley, a favorite wide receiver target of Rosens’, was drafted by the Ravens in the fifth round (pick no. 162).
