In episode 166 of the ‘What’s Bruin Show’, we celebrate the great weekend of UCLA Athletics which began with UCLA football’s Spring Game, UCLA Baseball and Softball bringing out the brooms and UCLA Gymnastics bring banner 115 to Westwood.
In this latest episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I geek about the fantastic weekend that was for UCLA Athletics. Bruins everywhere came together to revel in the success that included a championship, two sweeps and a preview of the future.

We start things off by talking about UCLA gymnastics and how two perfect 10s by Peng Peng Lee gave the women their seventh overall national title and UCLA’s 115th. It wasn’t just a great victory field by the huge inspiration that is head coach Valerie Kondos Field.
We then talk about UCLA baseball and softball which swept USC and Washington respectively. The softball team’s victory was especially significant as they shut down the #1 team in the country and because of it, took over the top spot in the polls.

We then go in depth about Bruins baseball as GJB writer and host of the UCLA B Team podcast, Nathan Eberhardt, joins us to give an update on the season and the absolute beat down of the Trojans.
We then shift our focus to the UCLA football team who held their first spring game under Chip Kelly. There were a lot of good takeaways, but also a lot of areas the Bruins can improve on and we get into all of that.
And if you were not aware, the NFL Draft is this week and there’s a lot of buzz surrounding former UCLA football players, especially the “Chosen One”. With all the hubbub surrounding Josh Rosen, we chat about where he could possibly go in the draft.
And for those clamoring for UCLA basketball, we have a little bit a news as a third underclassmen has declared for the NBA Draft. How will this affect the roster next season? We tell you.
