In episode 162 of the ‘What’s Bruin Show’, we look and both men’s and women’s UCLA basketball teams as they prepare for the Pac-12 Tournament. We also have a report on the UCLA football team as they begin spring practice.

In this latest episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I discuss a great many things in this transition period with UCLA sports. First off, both UCLA basketball teams are preparing for the post-seaosn, while UCLA football started spring practice and we had a lot to say about it.

We begin with a look at the men’s basketball team as they are riding a high to end the season. They defeated USC in their regular season finale, swept the Trojans for the season, got their 20th win and have some momentum heading into the Pac-12 Tournament.

Our question is, with the inconsistency that has plagued them this season, can they ride this high into the post-season, or will they hit a low at the worst possible time?

We then talk about what the Bruins need to do to lock up their spot in the NCAA Tournament. Will one win do, or two? Do they need to get the Pac-12 Championship Game? We discuss the possibilities.

There are also questions surrounding the UCLA women’s basketball team. Despite the fact that they had one of their best seasons in recent memory, they fell short at the end of the season and missed out on winning the Pac-12 regular season championship and the Pac-12 Tournament Championship. Though the Bruins are in a good spot to get selected to the NCAA Tournament, do they have what it takes to make a dent in the dance?

And then the part most of you have been waiting for. On Tuesday the UCLA football team began spring practice and I was there to take in the first steps of the Chip Kelly era. I discuss all that I saw and what direction the program is headed with a new regime in charge.
