The UCLA Women’s basketball team continues they roll through the Pac-12 with a 10-game win streak that has got them up to 7th in the AP poll, but a difficult path lies ahead.

At least for the time being, there is no stopping the UCLA Women’s basketball team. After another home sweep where the Bruins knocked off Arizona (69-46) and Arizona State (71-63), the Bruins have found themselves on a 10-game win streak.

After starting Pac-12 play 2-2, the Bruins have been dominant against the majority of the conference, which has led them to a three-way tie for first place in the Pac-12 with the #9 Oregon Ducks and the #14 Stanford Cardinal. They have also worked their way back up the AP Top 25, claiming the #7 spot.

On Friday, the Bruins defeated Arizona and it was not the usual suspects that led the charge. Normally you would hear about superstars Jordin Canada and Monique Billings, but against the Wildcats, it was freshman Michaela Onyenwere who showed UCLA fans what the future looks like as she logged 17 points and 12 rebounds. She continued her offensive assault on Sunday against the Sun Devils as she put up 12 points. That led to her being named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.

As for the ASU game itself, the Bruins kept the Sun Devils at arms length for most of the game. ASU fought hard to get back in, but the Bruins had complete control. Jordin Canada took over in this game and did so with another double-double as she had 16 points and 10 assists. Billings added 14 points and seven rebounds while Lajahna Drummer had 15 points of her own.

There was definitely reason to celebrate, but UCLA now has to get back to work as they will be tested this weekend. UCLA has four games left and the first two are on the road against the Oregon schools. On Friday the Bruins face #15 Oregon State and then take on conference-leading Oregon on Sunday night.

There is no looking ahead here. A win against Oregon State will keep UCLA in the hunt for the Pac-12 title, but then they have to go face-to-face against one of the teams that they are currently tied with. It will not be an easy weekend, but UCLA has to continue to “Fight, Fight, Fight”!

For those looking way ahead, ESPN’s Bracketology currently has UCLA as the #2 seed in the Albany Region. If they maintain this ranking, they would host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Los Angeles.
