PHOENIX, AZ - DECEMBER 26: Offensive lineman Jax Wacaser

The UCLA football program kicked-off National Signing Day with a miss as four-star offensive tackle Jarrett Patterson (Mission Viejo HS/Mission Viejo, CA) has opted for Notre Dame.

The UCLA football team starts National Signing Day with several solid signings, but will have to do without the commitment from 4-star OT Jarrett Patterson who is heading to Notre Dame. The early morning commitment checks in at 6’5” 285lbs, ranks 369th overall on 247Sports’ composite national ranking list, 45th in California, and 25th out of all offensive tackles in this year’s recruiting class.

Based on game tape from his preparatory career at Mission Viejo High School, Patterson brings a a lethal combination of quick feet, a hulking frame, strength, and speed to South Bend that could  immediately impact the Irish, something that could have helped UCLA.

With Patterson now on Notre Dame’s roster, an abundance of pancake blocks should be expected this fall, lucky them.

Notably, Patterson’s commitment leaves a hole to be filled for first-year head coach Chip Kelly who only has four offensive linemen committed or signed to the 2018 class.

Currently, UCLA has four-star offensive guard Chris Murray (6’3″, 300 lbs., Mater Dei/Santa Ana, CA), three-star offensive tackle Alec Anderson, 6’5″, 283 lbs., (Etiwanda HS/Rancho Cucamonga, CA), three-star guard Baraka Beckett (Palisades/ Pacific Palisades, CA), and Jon Gaines (6’5”, 275 lbs., (Marquette/Milwaukee, WI).

Kelly and his staff are clearly investing in the front of the Bruins’ offensive, but will have to look for help on the line elsewhere.
