Players to Watch:
Gyorgy Goloman, Alex Olesinski – Both of these big men need to be a presence in the middle, especially when Welsh is shooting from the outside. Staying out of foul trouble is key, but they also need to help out around the rim.
Last Word:
Cal is not good, but that should not give the Bruins a pass to take it easy. UCLA is having problems of their own and need to break a three-game losing streak, one that took them from first in the conference to 5th.
Despite the fact that nothing seems to be going right for Cal, the Bruins have let lesser teams back into games and have had to struggle to find the energy to put teams away late. Though it seems as though UCLA can out-talent the Golden Bears, they need to treat this game as if the Pac-12 Conference was on the line, because it essentially is.
The Bruins have been over-reliant on outside shooting and that caught up with them in the last three games which were horrendous. Though the Bruins should try and improve on that against a defenseless Cal team, they also need to try and work the ball in the middle to Welsh, Goloman and Olesinski. If the guards can penetrate and drive the lane, that would also give the Bruins a chance to take down Big Brother.
