The UCLA football team received a commitment from3-star junior college transfer Je’Vari Anderson (De La Salle/Concord, CA) who will help with depth at the linebacker position.

The UCLA football team is one player thicker in their linebacking corps as the Bruins just landed a commitment from a former De La Salle High School product, Je’Vari Anderson, who spent one year at Laney College, but is now on his way to Westwood.

Anderson, who measures at 6’0”, 220 lbs., projects as a nickel linebacker and a special teams player (he will get a lot of time working with new OLB and special teams coach Roy Manning). On defense he will fit perfectly in the hybrid position as he has ample speed that allows him to stay with potential receivers and allows him to lock onto ball carriers in pursuit.

More from Go Joe Bruin

He has also been known to get in the backfield and disrupt the quarterback or intercept the occasional pass. As Go Joe Bruin recruiting specialist Michael Hanna stated, “If he adds 10-15 pounds, he could have Jayon Brown potential.” That could big a big deal in a few years.

Currently, UCLA only has one linebacker committed or signed to the 2018 class. Bo Calvert was a USC commit who flipped and signed with the Bruins during the early signing period.

In recent years, the Bruins have been lacking in linebacker recruiting, which has affected depth. Since new defensive coordinator Jerry Azzinaro runs a 3-4, there is a bigger need for linebackers so Anderson comes in to help at the perfect time.

UCLA is also targeting 4-star linebackers Soloman Tuliaupupu and Elijah Winston. The former seems to be favoring USC while the latter could lean toward Westwood.

Kelly and Co. have been picking up steam on the recruiting trail. Anderson is the third player in the last week to commit to the Bruins. Currently, UCLA is 35th in the 247Sports 2018 recruiting class rankings.

Welcome to Westwood, Je’Vari!
