UCLA Basketball: Jordin Canada, Monique Billings named to Midseason Wooden Award
Jordin Canada and Monique Billings of the women’s UCLA basketball team are two of 25 players that have been named to the midseason John R. Wooden Award.
There are two big reasons why the UCLA basketball women’s team is 11-4 this season and ranked 14th in the nation. You can thank seniors Jordan Canada and Monique Billings for that.
Despite a few bumps in the road, the Bruins are packing a punch this season and they are being led by two of the best players in not just in the Pac-12, but the nation.

It was announced today by the Los Angeles Athletic Club that both Canada and Billings made the midseason list for the John R. Wooden Award Top 25 which is given to the top player in the nation and considered the most prestigious award in women’s college basketball.
Canada has been one of the most electrifying players to wear blue and gold in recent history. In her freshman season, she led the Bruins to a WNIT Championship behind 36 point performance.
In the next two seasons, she help lead the Bruins to Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament. This season, she is continuing her reign with 14.9 points and 6.5 assists per game (3rd best in the Pac-12).
Billings has been right there along side Canada, but 2017-18 is turning out to be a break-out season for the Bruins’ forward. Billings is leading the team in scoring with 15.8 ppg and is dominating the glass with 8.8 rebounds per game which just happens to be the best in the Pac-12. Additionally, she is 6th in the conference in blocked shots with 24.
Despite their individual efforts, Canada and Billings are looking to lead their team to a conference championship and hopefully move past the Sweet 16 in the Big Dance. With a fantastic supporting cast, this could become a reality. Go Bruins.
