UCLA Football: Chip Kelly gives his introductory press conference
New UCLA football head coach Chip Kelly was introduced to the media and talked about his past at Oregon, moving forward with the Bruins and dropped several John Wooden quotes in his first press conference in Westwood.
The Chip Kelly era of UCLA football has officially begun. Just a short time ago, Kelly was introduced as the newest head coach for the Bruins to a room full of media members that were eager to hear what the coach had to say about his return to college football.

The presser gave little insight to what Kelly plans to do at UCLA but gave a lot of insight to who Kelly is as a person coming in as the new coach of the Bruins.
First off, bravo to Kelly for playing to the crowd as he dropped several quotes from former UCLA Basketball coach, John Wooden. When asked about assembling his staff, Kelly said, “There is a coach that said ‘be quick, but don’t hurry’.”

Though it brought levity to the presser, his execution of each Wooden quote was heartfelt and seemed to be a guide for, not just this press conference, but how he wants to run the program.
But the essence of what he plans to do at UCLA was summed up early in the presser when he stated that football is made up of three things, “relationships, friendships and championships.” He is not just building a football team, he is building a football culture.
Kelly used a mixture of humor and sincerity in his presser to show that he is not only glad to be in Westwood, but also ready to start anew. Kelly has not had the best relationship with the media, but you would never have known it from how he presented himself today.
The new Bruin coach even addressed a serious subject when asked about integrity and how he left Oregon with sanctions and he did not back down, “I take full responsibility for what happened. It happened on my watch. I’m responsible for that.”

Though we are a long way from kickoff to the 2018 season, his press conference should quench many Bruins fan’s appetite for the next chapter of UCLA Football. As for me, spring practice can’t get her soon enough. Go Bruins!
