In episode 149 of the What’s Bruin Show, we take a look at both UCLA Basketball team’s in their exhibition games and then turn our attention to the UCLA Football team’s downward spiral.
In the latest episode, hosts Bill Shirley, Jake Merrifield and I begin our crossover sport podcasts as it is that time of the year where UCLA Football and UCLA Basketball meet.

And it could not come at a better time.
With the football team in a downward spiral, both the Women’s and Men’s UCLA Basketball teams are showing up right on time to give us something to cheer about (sort of – we recorded this the night before the information about three UCLA Men’s Basketball players being arrested in China broke).

We started things off with Go Joe Bruin headlines with extended segments covering both the men’s and women’s teams in their exhibition games.
The Women’s UCLA Basketball team slayed Vanguard behind the leadership of Jordin Canada and Monique Billings, but we also made note of several Bruins that will be fun to watch this season.
The Men also blewout their opponent as the Bruins blasted Cal State LA. It was a sluggish affair to start but UCLA turned things up in the second half behind senior Thomas Welsh and freshman Jaylen Hands.
We then head into the somber part of the show… that is right, the part where we discuss UCLA Football.
If you saw the game against Utah, you know it was not pretty. It was even worse when the dust settles as injuries became a big issue. Unfortunately, several fundamental flaws are also to blame and because we it, we discussed the need for the UCLA Football program to Head in a different direction.
