The UCLA Football team is losing, and not just on the field as this weekend showed that every facet of the program is starting to unwind.

Things have gone from bad to worse since the last time the UCLA Football team took the field. And no, this is not because the last time they took the field, the Utah Utes broke their four game losing streak with a massive beat down over the bloodied and bruised Bruins.

Since the clock hit zero on Friday night, a couple of things have aided the downward spiral that this UCLA season has turned into.

On Sunday afternoon, former UCLA linebacker Breland Brandt tweeted out a picture of a conversation he had with a staff member on the UCLA football team. It was not encouraging.

Brandt had recently made the decision with his family to medically retire from football after he had sustained four concussions in the last three seasons.

In the conversation via text message, the UCLA Football staff member wrote that Brandt had quit the team. Brandt did not take kindly to this as he messaged a few moments later.

That definitely gave the program a black eye, but what happened next gave the football program a punch to the gut.

After already losing three commitments in the past week, four since the beginning of September, the Bruins lost another as 3-star OL Blake McDonald also decommitted from the Bruins and stated that his recruitment is “completely open”.

During the 2016 cycle, UCLA got an alarming amount of decommitments in the summer, but was able to pick it up and once again capture a top 25 recruiting class.

This season, the Bruins have stepped it up as they’ve landed some big names since last signing day, which includes 4-stars CB Olaijah Griffin, WR Jahan Dotson and QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Unfortunately, it seems that it is now slowly starting to unravel. Losing five recruits, four in the last week, almost appears like a sign.  A bad sign. One that indicates that there are some serious issues going on with the UCLA coaches and staff.

If that wasn’t evident with the fact that UCLA has only won eight games in the last two seasons, well these latest events should raise several red flags. If they’re not careful, it’s going to raise several banners, and that the kind you hang up all the Pauley Pavilion.
