PASADENA, CA - OCTOBER 01: Josh Rosen

The award watch list part of the 2017 pre-season has begun and starting things of for UCLA Football is junior quarterback Josh Rosen who was named to the Maxwell Award watch list.

It is award watch season and the UCLA Football team has a lot of talented players that should have their name pop up on several watch lists in the next two weeks.

RELATED: What Rosen’s return in 2018 could mean

Starting today and going until Friday, July 21, there will be several lists naming the top players in each of the 15 categories presented (technically, two award watch lists were announced before summer as Kenny Young was named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list and Scott Quessenberry made the Rimington Trophy watch list).

Today we got our first two with one list naming a Bruin all UCLA fans cannot wait to see return to the field in 2017. Junior quarterback Josh Rosen has been named to the Maxwell Award watch list, which is given to the College Football Player of the Year.

After a stat-laden freshman season, Rosen looked to have a promising start to his sophomore campaign. Unfortunately a shift in offensive philosophy made it hard for Rosen to adjust, plus it also did not help that he injured his shoulder six games in which knocked him out for the rest of the season.

Still, in the six games he did play, Rosen threw for 1,915 yards (319.2 yards per game), completed 59.3%  of his passes, had 10 touchdowns and a QB rating of 138.9.

Rosen looks to build off of that this season as the Bruins have a new offensive style, one that new Offensive Coordinator Jedd Fisch looks to tailor to the players on his roster.

Fisch is also the new QB coach, so him and Rosen will be working side-by-side all season long trying to right the ship from last season. Hopefully their work can lead them to Rosen raising the Maxwell Award at the end of the season.
