The UCLA Football team has received their first preseason accolade as linebacker Kenny Young has been listed among 42 players to make the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list.

It is not a secret that the UCLA Football team has a fantastic defense full of great individual players.

One of those players has received an early preseason accolade as LB Kenny Young has made the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list. BOOM!

The Lott IMPACT Trophy, per their website, “is awarded annually to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of athletics and recognizes college football’s Defensive Player of the Year who best exemplifies the IMPACT acronym: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.”

This is a huge honor, one that the UCLA Football team has been familiar with, especially in the last few seasons. In 2013, former UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr had won the award with the Bruins’ all-time leading tackler Eric Kendricks winning it the following year in 2014.

More from Go Joe Bruin

This is a huge deal as once again the UCLA linebacking corps is proving that they don’t just produce solid players, but players that are among the best in the country.

UCLA is “Linebacker U” after all (sorry Penn State, its ours now).

Young has been developing into a very good athletic and smart defensive player and will been expected to pick up where last season’s leading tackler Jayon Brown (who is now with the Tennessee Titans) left off.

That should not be a problem as Young was second on the Bruins in total tackles (90). He also logged one interception, two pass deflections and three forced fumbles. That looks good to us! Congratulations, Kenny!
